“Lead can damage the most vulnerable without warning. Experts say sucking on or mouthing a lead-laced toy can cause damage that might not be readily apparent to caregivers or doctors. Possible symptoms of lead poisoning – such as irritability, a drop in IQ and poor school performance – could easily be confused with other ailments. Repeatedly sucking on or swallowing heavily leaded items can bring on a range of symptoms, from prolonged vomiting, diarrhea and cramping to possible death.” Parent Central

Babies and Bouquets Don’t Mix
Flowers are a lovely gift and may soon arrive after your little one arrives into the world but sniff and gaze with caution. “The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates the amount of pesticide residue allowable on food, but not on flowers,” says Susan Kegley, a staff scientist at Pesticide Action Network North America (www.igc.org/panna). Flowers brought into your home quite possibly have toxic fungicides, insecticides, and herbicides on them and if breathed in, ingested or even absorbed into the skin from handling can be extremely dangerous. Be sure to keep flowers (unless organic) out of Mommy’s and Baby’s room.
